I had wanted to join a book club for a while now but decided to fully commit during the pandemic while I had more time on my hands. Reese’s Book Club is hosted and run by Reese Witherspoon herself who picks out a woman-centered novel at the beginning of every month. The book club has an Instagram page, an app, and a website which gives easy access to readers anywhere.
Reese Witherspoon is an actress and producer who has starred in films such as Legally Blonde, Big Little Lies, and most recently, Little Fires Everywhere. She started Reese’s Book Club in June of 2017 and is still running it today. Reese’s Book Club is an extension of her company Hello Sunshine, which she also founded. Both companies have the same mission: “to put women at the center of every story we create, celebrate and discover. We tell stories we love–from big to small, funny to complex–all shining a light on where women are now and helping them chart a new path forward”.
The Reese’s Book Club app has all of the books catalogued from each month so it is easy to find which book one would want to read. Some notable picks are Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng, and Untamed by Glennon Doyle. The genres range from fiction to memoirs, romance to thrillers, and everything in between. There are multiple club chats such as meeting fellow club members or sharing advice on how to read multiple books at a time that allow for more discussion between members.
Reese’s Book Club has an Instagram page where members and non-members alike can browse posts of each month’s book. The page also features live readings from the authors themselves which includes Christie Tate, Sharon Cameron, Lucy Foley, and Kiley Reid where they can read passages from the book and answer questions. There is even a playlist tab where readers can enjoy music inspired by the novels curated by Hello Sunshine in collaboration with the authors themselves.
I have only recently dived into the world of Reese’s Book Club so I have read The Last Mrs. Parrish, The Rules of Magic, and The Light We Lost so far. I have participated in multiple chats as they appear on the app, but they do disappear after a good amount of time has passed. I like the way this book club is easy to navigate and it does not feel like there is pressure to be at a certain point in the group. It is very easy to get inspired by the amount of creativity that goes into the club such as having the music, hearing from the authors themselves, and seeing the excitement that comes from the members. There is no cost to join Reese’s Book Club. All one needs to do is set up a profile on the app and get started reading!
