Love, Magic, And Adventure: A Review of “A Court of Thorns and Roses”

LRR, March 21, 2022February 8, 2025

Check out Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses on Goodreads!

Finding a new book to dive into can be a challenging process. Do you want to read a story about love or magic? Or maybe you’re looking for action and adventure? Don’t worry –- I’m here to sell you on one of my absolute favorite reads from this year so far.

The fantasy novel A Court of Thorns and Roses, written by Sarah J. Maas, is a riveting story about a young woman named Feyre living in a world once touched by magic. When Feyre runs into trouble with a fantastical beast, she finds herself whisked northward, into the high fantasy land of the Fae. Through highs and lows, Feyre experiences love and lust while dealing with the implications of being a mortal amongst the immortal creatures of Prythian.

This book was recommended to me by two of my closest friends. Both of them urged me to dive into Maas’ perfectly curated world, chock full of love, magic, and adventure. At first, I wasn’t exactly sure where the story would take me, but after reading the first few chapters, I was hooked.

A glance at the alternative (adult) cover for this YA fantasy bestseller.

Maas has a way of making you fall in love with her characters –- even the ones who you’re supposed to hate! Feyre is a strong, goal-oriented heroine who doesn’t take anyone’s crap and will put her life on the line for her friends and family. Watching her character development throughout the story was truly a treat, and I can’t wait to crack into the second book to see where Maas takes us next.

The plot of the novel is easy to follow, and it comes with brilliant twists and turns that are sure to make you gasp. Be warned -– this book gets steamy! In between Feyre’s adventures, Maas sprinkles in some masterfully written and intimate scenes that might make you blush.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab yourself a copy, and get lost in A Court of Thorns and Roses.
