Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe – Benjamin Alire Sáenz
A homebody Taurus will easily feel comforted and surrounded by warmth as the language in this beautifully written book evokes emotions with each sentence. When Dante and Aristotle meet by the pool during summer and Dante offers to teach Ari how to swim, everything changes. The writing will appeal to the Taurus’ creative side, as will its loyal and stubborn characters.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo – Taylor Jenkins Reid
In this secretive tale that un-spins slowly, curious Geminis will be drawn in by the mystery and the charismatic–but aloof–character of Evelyn Hugo. This book is fast paced and engrossing, told in a dual perspective. The versatility of the narration also will appeal to Geminis.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
My Year of Rest and Relaxation – Ottessa Moshfegh
This book is bold with wicked humour and asks the question is anyone ever alright? For compassionate Cancers, this book takes you on a journey with the main protagonist to establish the trust you desire through gritty, unfiltered experiences.
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
The Scorpio Races – Maggie Steifvater
This exciting fantasy book drags its reader through the unforgiving coastal island as its protagonist struggles to keep her family intact. Leos, with their fiery, self-assuredness, will strive for the daring Puck Connelly to emerge victorious as she competes in the yearly Scorpio Races.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
Laura and Emma – Kate Greathead
This book is an exploration of life through a series of vignettes. Laura, born into upper class New York society, sails through life. After a one night stand, Laura has a daughter, Emma. Virgos will be attracted to this mediation of life as they become attached to this loyal and analytical woman, both traits valued by themselves.
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
The Wicker King – K. Ancrum
The prone-to-fantasy Libra will feel dangerously at home in this book. The protagonist falls deep into a reality-layered world ruled by a Wicker King while trying to keep his best friend in reality. In this book, the gorgeous accompanying illustrations will attract any aesthetic-loving Libra. As the fantasy progresses along with the storyline, the stakes rise, and as August struggles to choose his own truth, the Libra will be able to see both sides in this close male relationship.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)
The Surface Breaks – Louise O’Neill
This retelling of the Little Mermaid is deceiving with its brightly illustrated cover. Louise O’Neill warps this tale through a feminist lens, and her protagonist will draw any Scorpio in with her brave and passionate personality. O’Neill determination to highlight issues faced by women in any of her works will also appeal to the equally-determined Scorpios.
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)
I’ll Give You the Sun – Jandy Nelson
Told in two halves by twins, this book is a heart-wrenching look at sibling-relationships. The emotion-driven Sagittarius will feel torn in two as the account of each twin tugs them in different directions. With its loudly unique writing style, this book is like the extroverted and generous Sag as it gives its all in its telling.
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)
Emergency Contact – Mary H. K. Choi
In this close-to-the-heart contemporary romance, Penny and Sam take the reader into their heads as they navigate life. For the Capricorn, the serious, verging on pessimistic, characters are relatable. As the story progresses and Penny and Sam slowly open up to each other, the slow-to-trust Capricorn will also grow attached to the three-dimensional characters.
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)
Tennis Lessons – Susannah Dickey
In this bitingly real account of one young woman’s life, Aquarians will be drawn to the experimental second person perspective this book is told through. Its writing is original and uncompromising, two strong traits of an Aquarius, and they will relate to the protagonist as she feels she is looking in from the outside.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
Starfish – Akemi Dawn Bowman
The inner artist in any Pisces will come alive at the mere sight of this gorgeous cover. The emphatic Pisces’ heart will ache for Kiko in this coming of age narrative as Kiko strives to find her voice and place in the world while staying true to herself.
